Ocean Cleanup

To prove that entrepreneurs can turn their hand to pretty much anything, aerospace engineering student, Boyan Slat, decided to clean up the oceans by combining entrepreneurism with environmentalism and technology. Still at secondary school, a diving trip in Greece was an eye-opener for him when he found more plastic bags floating by than fish; he decided to do something about it and dedicated six months to research plastic pollution and the problems associated with cleaning it up. This ultimately led to his clean-up concept, which he presented at TEDxDelft 2012.

He has temporarily quit his studies to focus his attention on the Ocean Cleanup project and try and  prove the feasibility of his concept - the first ocean cleanup system is scheduled to be deployed in 2018. The progress of the Ocean Cleanup can be followed through a websiteFacebook and Twitter
