This week, I have been speaking to our BTEC business students on 'tabletop gaming', the topic of an upcoming exam.
Preparing for the session, I came across some useful resources that I spoke about; I've summarised the key points covered below:
- Think about your search terms: tabletop gaming or tabletop games - table-top games - table top games may all work well and equally, give different results.
- Are there any alternative search terms that you could try? For example, board games, traditional toys or games.
- Speech marks around phrases can help make searches more targeted eg. "Board Games"
- Adding - UK - to your search string will find results specifically relating to the UK.
- Log into the portal and from the library page, try searches in the following resources:
- EMIS - tip: the reports have the download 'wheel' icon to the left.
- European Newsstream - tip: the publication date tool can be used for more recent results.
- WARC: by choosing the download option, a report can be saved, which makes it easier to search through.
- Google it: don't forget the Toy Fair website, it includes an exhibitor list.
- Use CTRL + F (or F3) to quickly find keywords in long documents!
- And I'm throwing this one in for free!
