The Sustainable Aviation coalition which includes major airlines and airports worldwide, has pledged to sign a commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
In conjunction with this, the De-Carbonisation Road Map has been published, setting out how aviation can cut its carbon footprint; suggestions such as potential reductions coming from smarter flight operations and new aircraft and engine technology have been given; modernising airspace and developing sustainable aviation fuels will also help in reducing pollution. It is estimated that more than a third of the reduction will be achieved through offsetting.
